After weeks of navigating the vast ocean, a low bank of clouds sat on the horizon when the first shapes of land emerged. Dark forms altered the geometry of the sea.The discovery came after months of open water, a line of cliffs and wooded slopes materializing through the mist. The men noticed a shift in the birds too; species that roamed the ocean gave way to smaller birds that nested near shore.
