Many of us have a non-rational, stressful belief that we have to have the approval of others. The problem is that those individuals may not be qualified to give an expert opinion on the subject in question (you and your life!). Our thalamus is a small structure within the brain located just above the brain stem between the cerebral cortex and the midbrain and has extensive nerve connections to both. The main function of the thalamus is to relay motor and sensory signals to the cerebral cortex and Filter, Integrate and Select information for processing unconsciously. This happens before our cerebral cortex further refines the information. Your neurology, your brain biologically may be keeping you or your opinionated loved one from understanding the truth of a situation. By seeking out those that are already experts in a given subject ,(parenting, finances, happiness, athletics, diet, health, wellness , etc. ) we can move away from trying to please everyone and attempting to please ourselves first.
