The Dogs - A tale from Crosshollow

Every village remembers the dog that turned. Years later, when a new pack of half-grown dogs runs the field edges, the old fear wakes up and settles on them — and the village decides, quietly, that something ought to be done. But the dogs have harmed no one. And the night a real danger comes out of the trees, it's those same feared dogs who put themselves between it and the children.
