The Doors (1991) — "Now you can talk to God."
from The Kulturecast · host Weirding Way Media
Oliver Stone's The Doors is less a rock biopic than a two-hour-plus hallucination, with Val Kilmer disappearing so completely into Jim Morrison that the surviving band members reportedly couldn't tell his vocals from the real thing. Meg Ryan co-stars as Pamela Courson, with Kyle MacLachlan, Frank Whaley and Kevin Dillon as the rest of the band. It's excessive, self-serious and often ridiculous, which makes it a fairly accurate portrait of its subject. Chris Stachiw, the Doctor of Podcasting, digs into Oliver Stone, Val Kilmer, the '60s, the myth of the rock-and-roll poet, and so much more.
