The Doors, Part 1

Welcome to Rock & Roll Flashback!  I'm Jumpin' John, and today's podcast will cover the first three years in the career of one of the great American rock bands:  the Doors!  So light your fire and have a listen to The Doors, Part 1! In 1965 Ray Manzarek was playing keyboards in a Los Angeles band called Rick & the Ravens with his brothers Rick and Jim Manzarek.  Ray Manzarek happened to meet Jim Morrison on Venice Beach in July 1965.  They recognized each other from both attending the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.  When Morrison told Manzarek he had been writing songs and sang him the opening words of "Moonlight Drive", Manzarek was impressed.  Ray invited Jim Morrison to join the band.  At that same time John Densmore was drumming with the Psychedelic Rangers.  Densmore knew Manzarek from meditation classes and joined the group in August 1965.  By now the band called themselves the Doors, taking their name from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception.  In September 1965, after Manzarek's two brothers left, guitarist Robby Krieger joined.  The Doors lineup was now complete:  with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and drummer John Densmore.We welcome your feedback, so please feel free to click on this link and let us know your thoughts and/or suggestions via phone text!All podcasts on the Rock and Roll Flashback Podcast are produced by brothers-in-law Bill Price and "Jumpin' John" McDermott.  The Podcast Theme Song, "You Essay", was written by John.  It was initially recorded by Bill and John on April 1, 2004 with several revisions since then. Multiple promo videos and photos for Rock and Roll Flashback Podcasts are available on the following social media sites:https://www.youtube.com/@RockandRollFlashbackhttps://www.facebook.com/rockandrollflashbackpodcasthttps://www.instagram.com/jumpinjohnmcdermott/Bill and John welcome your feedback and comments, and they can be emailed to [email protected] you for listening to Rock and Roll Flashback Podcasts!Until next time...Rock On!
