The Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos: The Falling Asleep of the Mother of God

Today we remember the Dormition of our Most Holy Lady, the Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary. After the Lord’s Ascension, the Mother of God lived with the Apostle John and was a source of comfort and teaching for the Apostles and believers. She shared stories of Christ’s birth and life, helping to strengthen the early Church through her prayers and presence. The feast commemorates her peaceful passing, or Dormition, and her bodily ascent into Heaven. The Apostles were miraculously gathered to be with her at her repose. Her burial in the Garden of Gethsemane and the miracles associated with her relics and icons continue to inspire the faithful today.Support the show
