The Dove Field Circle
from The Sportsman's Light · host Patrick
A dove hunt is the most social event in the outdoors. Buckets spaced around a cut field, friends razzing each other over misses, kids on their first hunt, a tailgate lunch when the flight slows. Nobody dove hunts to be alone. The whole point is the circle. The writer of Hebrews knew men drift when they isolate. His remedy: don't give up meeting together. Keep showing up in the circle — not because church attendance is a box to check, but because men spur one another on. Courage is contagious. So is quitting.Somewhere along the way, many men decided faith was a private matter, best handled solo. Scripture disagrees. You were built for the circle — for brothers who notice when your bucket is empty, who encourage you when the flight is slow, who spur you toward love and good deeds. Don't hunt life alone.Prayer:Lord, forgive me for the seasons I've tried to walk alone. You built me for brotherhood — for a circle of men who sharpen, encourage, and hold each other up.Put me in that circle, and make me the kind of man who spurs others on. Amen.Challenge:Strengthen your circle this week: invite one man to something — a hunt, a meal, a cup of coffee. If you've drifted from gathering with other believers, take one concrete step back toward it.
