The Downside of the Sharing (Platform) Economy

What is often overlooked, however, is that the sharing economy is a platform driven economy and at the heart of it all is data.  Simon Fraser University Professor Katherine Reilly joins us to explain the issues arising from this new economic model both in North America and in the developing world.Professor Reilly is an Associate Professor in the School of Communications at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. Her work focuses on the impact of digital technologies on development, in particular, the impact of the platform economy in Latin America. Her work in this area includes Data, the Sharing Economy and Canadian Federal Regulation, Medium (Feb. 16, 2018);  The downside of Uber, Airbnb and the sharing economy, The Journal of Developing Societies (2017).
