The agency said in a statement it welcomes the DRC government’s “dedicated efforts” to protect people living in the Red Zone of eastern Goma from risks associated with further eruptions, and is warning of the potential that children would be at greater risk from further mass evacuation. Thousands of people fled Goma following the 22 May eruption, many of whom have headed to Sake.Meanwhile dozens of people have been killed in two new attacks in the Eastern part of the DRC a notorious group linked to the Islamic State has been blamed. On the 6th of May President Felix Tshisekedi proclaimed a 30 day state of siege in North Kivu and Ituri in a bid to curb the bloodshed by the Allied Democratic Forces, the armed group being blamed for recent attacks.
