The DREAMER Path Oracle Deck: Following My Own Path

from The Beautiful Dreamer Society Podcast · host Susan Bruck

I’ve had a nourishing relationship with tarot and oracle cards for many years now. I bought my first deck—the Motherpeace deck: A Way to the Goddess Through Myth, Art, and Tarot by Vicki Noble. It’s still one of my favorite decks. The book is now held together with a large rubber band.Over the years, I bought a few other tarot decks and eventually found oracle decks. Simpler in structure, often, than tarot, but still rich in imagery and spiritual connection.I don’t remember when the idea to make my own deck first came—only that it stayed with me.Why I Needed to Create ThisAs a writer and artist, I’m drawn to ways of bringing art and writing in a poetic and spiritual way.I longed for a deck that created a container of joy and light—to hold us through the ups and downs of life.I have known the dark—grief, loss, fear.I have denied these feelings in myself, not knowing how to face them. And I have known light—joy, love, community. They can both exist together.I wanted to create a deck to help us remember that even at our darkest moments, we are seen, known, and loved exactly as we are.I wanted to create a pause in the busyness of our lives.A place to find sweetness, hope, and inspiration.A small light. From Idea to Form (with a lot of help along the way)This seemed like a great idea, but I had no idea how to even begin creating and organizing it.And then something shifted.I began.I created a structure connected to the seven chakras and the elements. I made up elements to go with the higher chakras, as they didn’t have physical elements associated with them. I decided on seven cards for each “suit”—mirroring the chakra journey in each suit. Then I added the earth star and soul star chakras. I wanted a prime number of cards, so I did 5 cards for each of these, ending up with 59 cards (although I sometimes wished I’d decided on fewer!).From the journal entries, I created the guidebook. I used Affinity Photo to paint the cards on my computer. There was lots of technical learning as I figured out how to structure the book. And creative challenges as I decided what to leave in and what to take out. This oracle deck is a product of my wonderful community—plus lots of persistance and play.Oh, and this story wouldn’t be complete without mentioning that I wrote and published the DREAMER Path book in the middle of all of this deck creation. The book and deck wove together in lovely ways. Connected and yet distinct. Each is a tool (or toy) for following the DREAMER path to “rest, renewal, and your authentic self.”Try it With MeThis week’s podcast (and video) includes me pulling a card (you’ll have to watch to find out which one). I share the prompts and reflect on what the card means to me. And it ends with a short guided meditation inspired by the card.If This Speaks to YouThis deck has become a gentle companion for me. Each time I look at it, I discover something new. When I pick up the deck, I feel proud and amazed that I actually did it. But I also feel humble. For I know this deck came from many hands—both seen and unseen. It’s something I return to again and again. It’s Susan-flavored spirit made visible. This deck is playful, whimsical, and delicious. One friend described it as “sweet.” Like a warm chocolate chip cookie for your soul. You can explore the deck here. (The deck creation process included setting up an online shop—one more tech challenge.)And from now until Earth Day 2026, I’m offering free shipping within the U.S.Would You Like Me to Pick a Card for You?You don’t need to believe anything in particular. It’s not about predicting the future. It’s about finding insight and inspiration. Just bring your curiosity—and a question you want insight on, if you have one (you don’t have to tell me what it is, just hold it in your heart). If you’d like me to pull a card for you, leave a note in the comments, and I’ll share a card with you.In the meantime, I wish you love and light, and gentle guidance when you need it,xoxoSusanBeautiful Dreamer Society is a reader-supported publication.
