The Netherlands have been as responsible (if not more responsible) as any nation for the development of the modern game as a global phenomena- its style, its tactics, its business prowess. But outside of the Euro 88 tournament they have fallen agonizingly short in World Cups and Euros, in fact getting to the finals of three World Cups and losing all three.
