The Ecology Hour: Dr. Laura Rogers-Bennett on Kelp Forest Loss

April 12, 2022--A dramatic loss of kelp forest habitat along the Mendocino-Sonoma coast has received national attention. To find out what scientists are learning about this phenomenon, Tim and Bob talk with Dr. Laura Rogers-Bennett of the UC David Bodega Marine Laboratory. She leads a team that monitors marine environmental health using field investigations, laboratory work, and quantitative modeling, and has been monitoring nearshore marine conditions for 30 years. They ask her about the latest research and what is being discovered about the kelp, sea urchins, and sea stars, and what might be done to "help the kelp."
