The Effects of Unforgiveness

When we refuse to forgive others, the effects of unforgiveness with torment us. Unforgiveness is rooted in Pride and self-righteousness, because it cause us to judge others for what they did and leads us to forget what we have done. Jesus tells us if we do not forgive others, he cannot forgive us, because to do so, he would have to deny himself. Forgiveness is God's command to us and not his suggestion. When we refuse to forgive, a root of bitterness will eventually grow up in us, and now instead of being mad at the one person, we become like a tree defiling everyone around us. A bitter heart is born out of our unwillingness to forgive others. Forgiveness has nothing to do with what we want or feel, but it's an act of our obedience to the our heavenly Father.
