“The end”, interview with actor George McKay
from FRED Film Radio - English Channel
"The End" by Joshua Oppenheimer is finally making to italian cinemas on July 3rd with I Wonder Pictures. It is the first feature film by the two-time Oscar nominee for the documentaries "The Act of Killing"(2012) and "The Look of Silence"(2014). The film is a post-apocalyptic story about a family composed of Mother, Father and son, living in a bunker 25 years after the Earth’s environmental collapse. The synopsis and the trailer of the film are enough material to show how the film’s themes are very relevant to today’s world. We meet George MacKay, for this exclusive interview, in the very same italian salt mine where the film was shot. This happened thanks to the italian distribution of the film, I Wonder, that organized interviews and premiere of the film in the mine, in Palermo, Sicily. The actor tries to explain the allegory of the film as it is also about a shift of generations: “ My character, the son, is the generation that’s looking to make a change and the tragedy of the film is that, ultimately, he doesn’t change enough”.
