The End Of The World - Part 1

The Bible sheds enough light towards its own interpretation and for every scripture there is a corresponding one elsewhere in the Bible. Jesus is central to- and the primary interpreter of all scripture. Jesus talked about signs in Matthew when his disciples asked about the end of the world and He said that all these signs would be fulfilled during the generation of the people listening to him. The word ‘world’ in the Greek is ‘cosmos’ which talks about the whole world. The second Greek word for ‘world’ is ‘oikoumene’ which refers to a part of the globe, a terrain, or the area we live in. This is the world Jesus talked about in Matthew 24:14, referring to the preaching of the gospel of the kingdom in all of the world. A third word for ‘world’ is ‘Aion’ which means ‘age’ or ‘era’. This last word was the one which the disciples used in asking about the end of the world. Hebrews 1:1 talks about the ‘last days’ and God having made ‘worlds’ by His Son and these ‘worlds’ means dispensations or eras. There were four worlds created, the first from Adam to Noah, from Noah to Moses, from Moses to Jesus and then from Jesus onwards forever. It was the ‘world’ or ‘era’ lasting from Moses until Jesus which the disciples were asking about in Matthew. The book of Revelation was not written as a futuristic book, but to reveal or unveil Jesus Christ. When it is written in this book that Jesus had been crucified from before the foundation of the world the word ‘Aion” is used. That means that Jesus was born at the end of the Moses era and when Jesus was crucified, it was the beginning of the new world or era, which was built on the foundation stone of Christ. He also was the door for entrance into the new world or age. We are the living stones being built upon the foundation of Christ. When there was a change of world, there was also a change of heaven and earth. The world in which we are living, is an unshakable world, a world without end, the home of the righteous.
