The End Results of Modern Feminism

from THINK BEFORE YOU SLEEP · host THINK BEFORE YOU SLEEP

Lower marriage rates. Higher divorce rates. Record loneliness among young women. A generation that has been taught to fear intimacy and distrust men. These are the end results of a movement that promised liberation and delivered isolation. In this episode, I assess the measurable outcomes of modern feminism after fifty years of dominance in Western culture. The good: women now earn more college degrees than men, have access to legal contraception and abortion, and have legal protections against workplace discrimination. The bad: women report higher rates of anxiety and depression than any previous generation. Birth rates have collapsed below replacement level. The percentage of women who say they are very happy has declined steadily since the 1970s, even as their material conditions have improved.Feminism's promise was that women would be happier when they were free. The data suggests the opposite. Freedom without purpose is not liberation. It is drift. The movement that told women they could have it all did not tell them that having it all means doing it all. And doing it all is exhausting.Turn down the lights, put on your headphones, and press play because the end results of modern feminism are not what anyone predicted. And they are not what anyone wants.
