“Gentleman’s Agreement” follows journalist Phil Green as he moves to New York City and takes on a high-profile magazine assignment about anti-Semitism. In order to truly view things from an empathetic perspective, he pretends to be Jewish and begins to experience many forms of bigotry, both firsthand and through a Jewish friend, Dave Goldman. Phil soon falls in love with beautiful Kathy Lacy, but their relationship is complicated by his unusual endeavor. Directed by Elia Kazan, the film stars Gregory Peck as Philip Schuyler Green, Dorothy McGuire as Kathy Lacy, John Garfield as Dave Goldman, Celeste Holm as Anne Dettrey, and Dean Stockwell as Tommy Green.
