Directed William Friedkin, the film stars Gene Hackman as Jimmy "Popeye" Doyle, Roy Scheider as Buddy "Cloudy" Russo, Fernando Rey as Alain Charnier, Tony Lo Bianco as Sal Boca and Marcel Bozzuffi as Pierre Nicoli.
