The Ethics of Compassion : New drugs, Desperate Patients and Corporate Responsibilities

Is it fair for social media to play a role in determining which patients get access to experimental treatments? Can rescuing individual patients in need be reconciled with an evidence-based regulatory approval process for new therapies? And, if there is a duty to “rescue” terminally ill patients by paying for access to experimental therapies who has that obligation? Dr. Caplin addresses these questions in this lecture.
