THE ETIOLOGY OF WAR, a children's rhyming choral soundpoem...
from Cliff Crego · host Cliff Crego
A little campfire improvisato.... The patterns of steps of the two inner in-synch metric strophes are from my TALKING HANDS / TALKING FEET, a technique I use in my performance project,THE CIRCLE IN THE SQUARE. It is a way of learning rhythm with the whole body, for poets, composers, performers & dancers. Here, each PHRASE or breath is a variable group of 6 to 13 steps [aka 'syllable,' a term which I very much dislike]; Whereas each IN-BREATH is always a constant 2 steps. This makes the poem easy to conduct, to sing, to dance, to learn by heart. It's also how I imagine the sound & spirit of the chorus of ancient Greek tragedies, reciting and dancing and playing bright, simple hand-held percussion instruments, all at the same time.
