PART II - THE LAW OF CAUSE AND EFFECT RULES EVERYTHING WITHOUT ANY EXCEPTIONSThe law of Cause and Effect is infinite. The more you understand it, the more interests you gain. Enlightened saints have a profound understanding of the law of Cause and Effect, while normal people like us just have a basic understanding but it is still valuable to their life.The law of Cause and Effect is the absolute right principle of the universe. No matter how high level we reach in cultivation, we are still ruled by this law. Everyone is dominated by this law without any exception. This is different from human law.In our world, a person who creates a law may not be ruled by this law. For example, a king does not allow anyone to enter his garden. However, he himself can do it. That means humans can create a law and can disobey it. However, the law of Karma is not that way. No one creates it. It exists in the universe by itself and no one has capability to escape it. Even the one who rules this world is also dominated by the law of Karma. And thanks to the law or Karma, that person has such power but he himself cannot achieve it. That means he created a karma that he will be worth having so much power.It is easy to understand people who lack blessing and often face difficulties are dominated by the law of Karma. However, this law applies to blessed people as well. Monks of high morals do not mean to avoid being ruled by the law of Karma, but they live in accordance with it. They always try to control themselves as they know they reap what they have sowed. In theory, if you create good karma, you will achieve good outcomes and if you create bad karma, you will receive retribution for it. However, the law of Karma is so intense that one cause will produce thousands of effects. Sometimes, with just one word, we can enjoy our blessing in all our life even through ten lives after. And sometimes with just one word in unintentional way, we will fall into animals that won’t be able to become humans even after ten lives.Because we do not fully understand the law of Cause and Effect, we rarely control ourselves but let us do whatever we want. We can treat others in a bad way; we can despise or deceive someone we hate because we don’t know what retribution is waiting for us. But when we know the law of Karma is very fair, we will fear for our retribution so we will restraint ourselves and always live to love, to sacrifice and to serve others.Why is that so? It is because the retribution for selfishness is of humble origin and misery. Those who only care for their own interest will be miserable in the future. The first possibility is they will become unfortunate people; the second possibility is they will become animals; the third possibility is they will become hungry ghosts; and the fourth possibility is they will be sent to hell. If we believe in the law of Karma, we will restrain ourselves and vow to love all beings.
