But David stayed home. That single decision, that moment of choosing comfort over duty, set in motion the most catastrophic fall in the Old Testament. From his rooftop he saw a woman bathing. He sent for her. She conceived. And then one sin demanded another: deception, manipulation, and finally murder. The man after God's own heart, the shepherd who trusted God against Goliath, the king who danced before the Ark, became an adulterer and a killer. And he thought he got away with it.The Psalm gives us David's eventual response: "Be merciful, O Lord, for we have sinned. Create in me a clean heart." But the Gospel offers a haunting parallel. Jesus tells parables about seeds that grow invisibly, beneath the surface, producing harvests the farmer cannot explain. The kingdom of God grows this way, from a mustard seed into a great tree. But so does sin. David did not wake up one morning and decide to destroy his integrity. It grew in the dark, one small compromise at a time, until the harvest arrived and he discovered what he had become. Everything grows. The kingdom of God grows. Patterns of sin grow. The only question is what seeds you are planting, what is sprouting beneath the surface of your heart while you sleep.📖 ReadingsFirst Reading: 2 Samuel 11:1-4a, 5-10a, 13-17Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 51:3-4, 5-6a, 6bcd-7, 10-11Gospel: Mark 4: 26-34⏱️ Timeline00:00 Introduction00:15 Reading I - 2 Samuel 11:1-4a,5-10a,13-1702:37 Psalm Response - Psalm 5107:01 Gospel - Mark 4: 26-3408:08 Reflection - The Fall🎧 Prefer to listen on the go?
