The Fall of Orban: Hungary Reclaims Democracy and Europe

After 16 years of authoritarian power, Viktor Orban and his party have been ousted from power in Hungary. The opposition Tisza party, led by Peter Magyar, won a massive election victory driven by a record voter turnout of approximately 78%. With over half the votes reported, the Tisza party secured a commanding lead of 52.8% to 39.1%, putting them on track to win a parliamentary supermajority of at least 133 seats. Achieving this two-thirds supermajority would give the new pro-democracy government the power to change the Hungarian constitution. Viktor Orban officially conceded the election and called Peter Magyar to congratulate him. Previously, Orban's government acted as a disruptive force within the EU, routinely vetoing support for Ukraine, creating false flags, and functioning similarly to a Russian asset by undermining European solidarity from within. Following the election, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, celebrated the outcome, declaring that "Europe's heart is beating stronger in Hungary tonight" and that the country has returned to its European path.
