The Family Altar Audio Devotional - Day 134

from Ten Thousand Worlds · host Luis Urrego

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. (John 5:24) 18 Reminds me of when I was in school, as a boy, we had had a chum there, was a very fine friend, he was an insurance salesman. And somehow, nothing against insurance, now, but I just don’t have any this earthly insurance. So some time ago, this young fellow… His brother is a Baptist minister, also, and he writes articles in the Upper…for the Upper Room. And he came up to my house, and he said, “Well, Billy, I’m sure glad to get to see you again.” I said, “Sit down, Wilmer.” 19 We got to talking. And I knew what he was coming for. I got a brother that sells insurance, but I just never did take any, somehow. So he said, after we talked a while, he said, “I understand, Billy, that you haven’t got any insurance,” he said, “and I thought maybe I could talk to you about a policy. And…” 20 “Oh,” I said, “thank you, Wilmer, but I’ve got a—a paid-up policy.” 21 And he said, “Oh, I’m sorry,” he said, “what kind of a policy do you have, Billy?” And I said, “Eternal Life.” 22 And believe it or not, the boy said, “I don’t believe I’m acquainted with the Company.” Says, “Where is its headquarters?” I said, “Glory.” “Oh,” he said. I said: It’s blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory Divine! I’m an heir of salvation, purchased by God, Born of His Spirit, and washed in His Blood. 23 “Oh,” he said, “that’s very nice, Billy, but that won’t put you up here in the graveyard.” 24 “But,” I said, “it’ll get me out.” I’m not worried about getting in. Yeah. Amen. I’m not worried about getting in. It’s, getting out. 25 So I—I’m so glad to have this assurance that I will come out. Because, He Who made the policy, that we could all come out, I have received that assurance in my heart, that I’ve passed from death unto Life. And I know, someday, that He’ll bring me out. 63-1116B - "Investments" Rev. Barnum. Some laws teach the need for prudence (“Law 1: Never Outshine the Master”), others teach the value of confidence (“Law 28: Enter Action with Boldness”), and many recommend absolute self-preservation (“Law 15: Crush Your Enemy Totally”). The Ten Commandments Chad Boersema Many focus on MAKING disciples, we hope to help in the process of BEING a disciple of Jesus. Understanding the ten commandments can be a good place to reflect on, as they were one of Israel's first introductions to learning how to relate to God and live in His way. Jesus also references the commandments in his sermon on the mount saying, “...whoever does them [the commandments] will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:19) Looking forward to exploring these with you!
