The Family Altar Audio Devotional - Day 299

from Ten Thousand Worlds · host Luis Urrego

And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David. And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered. And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king. But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house. And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house? And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing. (2 Samuel 11:6-11) 132 While walking today and talking with a young man, I said, “When I get to Heaven, one of the things I want to do was to walk up and shake hands with a certain fellow that had done a gallant thing.” And he talked about the one he wanted to see. He wanted to shake his hand, of different things, of how that God blessed the people. 133 When, Uriah, after that David had taken Bathsheba, his wife, and they sent out and got him. And she was to be mother. And brought her in, so that he could lay it onto Uriah. And he was not a Gentile…He was not a Jew. He was a Gentile, and he was a Hittite, a proselyte to the Jewish religion. And he told him to go down and stay a while at home, with his lovely, beautiful wife. He said, “God forbid that I’d do such a thing as that, and the ark of my God on the battlefield.” And he refused to do it. 134 And, brother, when I get to Glory, I want to walk up to Uriah and shake his hands, and say, “God be praised, for Your testimony meant something to me in my earthly journey.” 135 I want to walk over to Daniel, say, “You know, Daniel, when you went in there fearless before those lions, that testimony meant something to me.” Yes, sir. 136 I want to see the apostle, Peter, and say, “Peter, that night when you was in prison, and the Lord come in with a big Light and shined over you, oh, I always admired that. And you started following that Light, and the door opened before you, and took you right into the streets. You thought you were dreaming.” What a time! 137 Not going to be no quiet place in Heaven, when all that redeemed gets around There, is it? It’s going to be a marvelous thing take place up There, when all the redeemed comes marching in. 54-1231 - "Everlasting Life And How To Receive It" Rev.
