The Family Room - Whose Voice Are You Listening To?

from The Quest Atlanta Catholic Radio

Guest: Colleen Orchanian - wife, mom, spiritual author and podcaster, retreat leader, and spiritual directorSatan’s greatest victory has been convincing everyone he doesn’t exist, largely succeeding by getting us to jettison guilty consciences and embrace our own path to happiness. Why, then, are we so unhappy? As an experienced spiritual author, retreat leader, and spiritual director, Colleen Orchanian has been able to break down spiritual warfare in a way that is easy to understand.Have you ever had a situation where everyone around you seems to be falling apart, or there’s a sudden burst of anger that disrupts an otherwise healthy dialogue? Guess who started it? When we begin to see the “other person” as the enemy, Colleen declares, we haven’t found the right enemy. Her book, “Whose Voice Are You Listening To? How to Fight and Win the Daily Spiritual Battle,” points to the foundational distortions we have about ourselves, God, and others, which become the lies controlling our thoughts. These distorted images wreak havoc until we recognize they come from Satan and learn to disarm them.Colleen uncovers fourteen tools God has given us, including the importance of virtue, learning to forgive, and building community. Mastering spiritual warfare is how we become battle ready in this war for our souls.  Guest biography: Colleen Orchanian loves being one of eleven children with ten sisters overwhelming the only boy. Raised in a loving Catholic family has helped her appreciate the value of maintaining strong ties in spite of location. Married to Tom since 1980, it was 20 years before God surprised them with a son who is now in college. They are also the guardians of two sweet children, Maggie and Noah. A mutual hobby of riding motorcycles gives Colleen great inspiration for her books and podcast, “Food For Thought (Spiritually Speaking).” A love of writing led her to a 30-year career writing training manuals for corporate America. Colleen also volunteers at church and was recruited to become the Director of Adult Formation, a title she held for 10 years that allowed her to develop retreats and write spiritual books. Colleen attended the Heart of Christ Spiritual Direction Program, graduating in 2021. Being a spiritual director allows her to integrate her many gifts in a way that can assist individual women on their own spiritual journeys.Resources:Colleen Orchanian's websitePodcast:  “Food For Thought (Spiritually Speaking)”Colleen Orchanian's booksHeart of Christ Spiritual Direction Program
