The Farmer and the Snake｜农夫与蛇

出自｜伊索寓言 On a long cold winter morning a farmer walked slowly across his quiet field The sky was pale and grey, and snow covered the ground like a soft blanket The farmer pulled his coat tighter and breathed warm air into his hands Winter was hard this year for people and for animals As he walked something dark caught his eye near a frozen stone He stopped and looked more closely There curled on the icy ground lay a small snake Its body was stiff with cold and its head rested quietly on the snow The snake was not moving at all The farmer knelt down slowly and watched it “This little snake is still alive,” he thought, “but the cold has nearly taken it.” The farmer felt a soft sadness in his heart “All lives struggle in winter,” he said quietly “If I leave it here, the cold will surely kill it.” He hesitated for he knew what snakes were— they bite. It is their nature. Still,the farmer did not turn away Carefully, he picked up the frozen snake It felt like ice in his hands The farmer opened his coat and placed the snake inside, close to his warm chest He began walking again step by step through the snow Inside the coat the snake slowly felt the warmth Little by little its body softened Its breath returned, its muscles woke After a while the snake opened its eyes It moved its head and tasted the air The snake felt strong again In one quick moment it struck The farmer cried out as sharp pain spread through his body He fell to the ground, snow flying around him “Why? Why did you do this?” he whispered in pain “I carried you— I kept you alive.” The snake slid onto the snow and looked at the farmer calmly “I did not change,” said the snake “You knew what I was when you chose to help me.” The farmer lay still the cold returning to his skin Slowly he understood: kindness is precious, but it must have eyes open That winter morning the field stayed silent And the lesson stayed.前往小宇宙评论区与主播互动
