Given the war and its duties patrolling the Atlantic hunting U-boats and Italian submarines this wasn't seen as a great surprise and was chalked up to enemy action. No one claimed responsibility for sinking it, but again that’s not unheard of. For most people, even historians and aficionados, the USS Morgan is barely a footnote. But not for my family.
