“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven” gets quoted like a victory chant, but Matthew 18 doesn’t read like a hype verse when you slow down and keep it in context. We open the chapter where the disciples chase status and authority, then watch Jesus put a child in the middle of the room and redefine greatness as humility, repentance, and a changed mind. That alone flips the whole “power” conversation on its head, especially for anyone raised around Word of Faith teaching, modern manifesting language, or anything that treats Scripture like a lever to pull.From there, we walk through the parts most people skip: the warnings about stumbling blocks, the seriousness of harming “little ones,” and why Jesus’ extreme imagery about cutting off a hand or plucking out an eye is really about heart change.
