The Favourite
from RollTheCredits's podcast · host Frank DiSalvo and Zach Johnson
Early 18th century, England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend, Lady Sarah governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne's ill health. When a new servant Abigal arrives, her charm endears the Queen to Sarah and a fight ensues to who can become the Queen's favourite. Yorgos Lanthimos comes through with his most realistic film, set in actual reality. A true master of his craft, The Favourite shows us that Lanthimos is one of the most consistent directors working today. Another masterpiece, more deep metaphors, and although a funny film, when the credits roll you are left with this feeling of true deep sadness.
