The Fearless Happyness Podcast Episode 39 with Jared Miller

from Fearless Happyness Podcast · host Max Nijst

Two amazing parents raised Jared Miller in Davis County, Utah. He spent two years as a student-athlete at Snow College, graduating from Weber State University at the age of 22. By the age of 24, he was a teacher & head football coach at the high school level in Arizona. He was truly living out his dreams until life took a turn. Within only a couple of years, he experienced his father's death, the death of his brother, and his wife asked him for a divorce. During this period of loss, he found himself abusing prescribed pain medications out of desperation to cope. Unfortunately, this ultimately led to a full-blown heroin addiction which he struggled with for years. As a result, Jared found himself homeless, ashamed, alone, and suicidal. Through the grace of God, he was able to seek out help, get clean, and become a person in long-term recovery. However, it wasn't until he stopped blaming his ex-wife, his family, and his circumstances for his addiction that he began to make strides in rebuilding his life truly. Within his first two years of recovery, he realized he had to either continue to be ashamed of his past or decide to own and share his story in hopes that it would impact others. Today, Jared Miller works as an Advanced Substance Use Disorder Counselor (ASUDC) for the largest treatment center in Utah. Jared shares his story and educational lectures at public schools, community events, and recovery banquets. In addition, Jared hosts a podcast and local radio show titled "We Do Recover with Jared Miller" with his co-host, mentor, and beloved friend Doctor Terry Sellers, board-certified in addiction medicine (MD). He is most grateful to be remarried to an amazing wife, able to work in a career he is passionate about, and assist in changing the stigma surrounding addiction.
