Three SADC countries (South Africa, Zimbabwe and Angola) have in the recent past received new leaders. At the top of all the three leaders’ agendas is the combating of corruption in their states. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has vowed to fully support the state capture enquiry, which will seek to unravel allegations of state capture in the country. Meanwhile Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa hit the ground running after former president Robert Mugabe was ousted in what some call a coup. Zimbabwe has since unearthed a lot of dubious transactions which include former 1st lady Grace Mugabe, where in some cases she is being accused of the illegal trade of elephant tusks and diamond smuggling. In Angola the new President João Lourenço is hard at clamping down corrupt activities happening there. There are allegations currently under investigation of the former Presidents son planned to siphon off $1.5 billion when he ran the oil-rich country's sovereign wealth fund, the finance ministry To help us unpack the discussion for the day, we are joined by: 1.
