The Fir Tree is a short story about a young fir tree who is so consumed by the desire to grow bigger and see the world that he cannot enjoy a single moment of his life. From envying the tall trees of the forest, to dreaming of becoming a ship's mast, to finally being chosen as a Christmas tree adorned with lights and golden stars, he is always longing for what comes next.
