The Fire Before the Fight

Before America won its freedom on the battlefield, God was at work in the hearts of its people. The First Great Awakening transformed the colonies through faithful preaching that called men and women to repentance, obedience, and accountability before God. Ministers such as George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, Jonathan Mayhew, and John Witherspoon prepared the moral and spiritual foundation upon which the cause of liberty would later stand. Their faithfulness reminds us that lasting freedom is born from spiritual renewal, not merely political action. Like those pastors, we may never see the full harvest of our obedience, but God uses faithful servants to prepare the way for future generations. Before there is victory in the fight, there must first be the refining fire of revival. Before America won its freedom on the battlefield, God was at work in the hearts of its people.
