John 20:21-23In the Gospel of John, Jesus replaces many commandments with one new commandment: that we love one another as he loved us. (John 13:34)Love is hard when we have been hurt or wronged. Love is harder when we are still  being actively hurt and wronged. So the first gift of the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John is the capacity to forgive. The Holy Spirit allows us to live healthy with our wounds as we healing.The power anger, resentment, bitterness, fear, and jealousy have over us and our lives is broken. The capacity to forgive gives us the ability to love.
