Though popes long claimed some sort of infallibility with regards to their teaching, it was only in the late 19th century that papal infallibility was solemnly defined as a dogma of the Church. In this episode, we discuss the debate over the definition of papal infallibility which took place at the First Vatican Council in 1870.
