The Flaming Cargo of the City of Montreal (1887)

The Daily Gazette of Burlington, Iowa, from the 19th of August, 1887, contained the following description of the City of Montreal being abandoned: “There was a heavy sea running, and it was with difficulty the boats were kept from being smashed. The crew worked splendidly, and all the passengers were placed in boats in comparatively short time. How the boats floated with their loads is a miracle.
