The Flyers Are On Fire! (PST Show #353)

from The Philadelphia Sports Table | Philly Sports News & Views · host The Philadelphia Sports Table

The Philadelphia Flyers are on fire as they are one of the top teams in the NHL! Their recent 9-game win streak has shown us what kind of team they are and what we are expecting in the playoffs (if there are playoffs this season). This week, Bill Matz from the Broad Street Hockey Radio podcast (BSH Radio) joined us to discuss this Flyers team and how the organization finally seems to have the right front office in place for future success. It's a great interview! But first, we started out the show by discussing how the coronavirus has affected the sporting world, and life in general. The NBA has suspended its season. What may happen to hockey and baseball? (approx. 2:00)From there, we dove into some Phillies pitching talk. Are we underestimating how important Zach Wheeler will be to this team? (approx. 17:00)We then talked about what the Eagles may do in free agency, and how free agency, in general, seems to be misunderstood by many sports fans. (approx. 24:00)This week on the Highbrow Segment, we discussed a recent article by Jayson Stark about how MLB may need to implement technology into the game to help pitchers and catchers with signals. Should this be the next step for a "traditional" game like baseball? (approx. 31:00)On the Lowbrow Segment, this week it's "Cohost Questions" again as we ask each other random questions about beer and music. (approx. 38:25)What we're throwing down on the Table this week is an in-depth interview with Bill Matz from BSH Radio as we take a look at this Flyers team and what they've done this season. First, we discussed Carter Hart's performance level. From there, we talked about the trajectory of the youth on this team that has show us an incredible amount of growth thus far. How should Derek Grant be utilized over the next few weeks? What opponent do we want the Flyers to play against in the first-round? We got into all of this and much more on the Table! (approx. 50:00)Email us at [email protected] to let us know your thoughts about anything and everything Philly sports. We'll read your email on the show and respond.
