Summary

Here we are! Back on schedule! I feel so accomplished! I got not only the last episode done, but I caught up and have completed this episode too! I might have to eat a big bowl of ramen to celebrate my good fortunes! This is the Eighth Sunday after Pentecost. Liturgically speaking, we are in the church season of "ordinary time." I always find that to be a misgiven name. but this is the time when we follow Jesus through the Gospel of the year (year C in this case) as he ministers and teaches the disciples and reveals his message to the world through the eyes of the Gospel authors.  Our author, Luke, lived as part of the second generation, so to speak. after Paul and the Twelve had moved on, and his works, if you follow the two source criticism wrote his Gospel combining the narrative Gospel of Mark with the original Sayings Gospel probably lost to antiquity we call "The Sayings Gospel 'Q'."  We can also surmise, from the interpretation and style of the writing that Luke's audience was focused on evangelizing the Gentiles. it's focus was definitely less on proving Jesus' authority as the incarnation of God and more to do with the Jesus' message being the redemption of the Whole world, not only the Jews. but more on that as we continue through.
