The Foundation You Try to Skip: Fear, Desire, and the Ego
from Yoga & Consciousness by Paulus Yoga · host Daniel Paulus
The spiritual instinct is to rise above fear, desire and ego as fast as possible. The older traditions say the opposite. This is a talking-head reading of my essay on the three drives at the base of the inner life: why suppressing them fails, and what they become when you own them instead of being owned.I read the first three centres through Jung and through the tantric tradition, from the ego as a centre that has to be built before it can be relativised, to the Devi Mahatmya, where the goddess destroys the demons not out of hatred but as an act of mercy. The demons are the forces inside a person that ego and ignorance have turned destructive. Fear, met rather than fled, becomes discernment. Wanting becomes direction. The raw survival force becomes the steadiness to act.The written essay, with full sources, is on Substack: https://danielpaulus.substack.com/p/the-foundation-you-try-to-skipIf you want to do this work slowly and in depth, my individual guidance goes into exactly this territory: https://www.danielpaulus.net#depthpsychology #jung #tantra #consciousness #shadowwork
