The Friday Rock Show - 48 - Wacken Off

from A&M Audio Adventures · host A&M

This ravenous slab of the Friday Rock Show brings you all the chaos and excitement of the heavy metal festival Wacken Open Air in Germany. Between the thunderous downpours, blaring guitar riffs, and rabid fans, hosts Adrian and Tony try to wrangle interviews with rock legends and read eccentric letters from listeners about mosh pit etiquette, time travel paradoxes, and ragers gone wrong.  Get an exclusive insider's view of the mud, sweat, and beers - not to mention the boundary-pushing behaviour - that define this beloved annual European tradition. It's the Friday Rock Show #48! Presenter Adgeen Byrne and producer Tony Wilson take on a monsoon of metal in more ways than one, pitching their DJ tent in the ‘mud puddle’ at the Wacken festival. They hanker for Doro Pesch, reminding themselves of when they last interviewed her ten years previous, but soon they’ll see her in the flesh onstage closing the night at Wacken. Adrian seems nervous as the lightning is out to get him while FRS reporter Brian Turgidy checks out the bearing load of the festival toilets. There’s listener letters read out from inside a plastic toilet cabin and at the mud puddle side-stage, stories from Shawn Canary about working around Gary Lineker’s ego, Pastor Badpaw on old man Doggy, a ranting and possibly stoned Gabbler in his sci-fi spot, a phlegmy Chief Philty, and an incredible story sent in from Lilo McGregor about meeting his titanic twin from another dimension, where only the Timefiddler and Tucker Peacock can ‘set him right’. Crack open a Trooper, dowse the scaldy balls in talcum powder, and listen to the on-stage performances of Doro, Powerwolf, and Rammstein! German metal baby! Ooh ja. Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy joins Adgeen and Tony behind the stage for a chat on the precarious state of slam-diving and moshing for ladies at metal festivals such as here at Wacken, where incidents of rubbing and pushing in the moshpit threaten to cast a pall on proceedings, and also where Adgeen might have taken things a bit too far, much to Alissa’s disgust, showing her his new tight trousers. Amon Amarth are berserking! Ghost are dance macabre-ing! And Baldy gives Jude Law’s ring-piece a good seeing to at the Craniosacral therapy centre. You know, even Biff Byford shows up in his long coat! Oh, it’s all here under the relentless rain and belching thunder at the Wacken Open Air metal festival. So, strap on the bulletbelt and come join Adgeen and Tony for the slippery slosh of a simply spectacular Friday Rock Show. Dare to be odd.
