The Fugitive General’s Son: The Suitcase Murder of Zhao Wei

Ang Li, the son of a high-ranking Chinese military official, murdered his girlfriend Zhao Wei in Canada in 2002 and fled back to China shortly before her body was discovered stuffed inside a suitcase. Although a Beijing court initially sentenced him to life in prison for the crime, his sentence was later controversially reduced to just seven years for manslaughter, allowing him to be released in 2016. He is currently battling New Zealand immigration authorities who denied his refugee application after discovering he used multiple fake identities and fraudulent passports to conceal his criminal past.
