First off neither of these teams have alot of money to spend going into the offseason and each has its own set of players walking into free agency.Right off the bat. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs- Andy Reid gets his first Super Bowl after over 20 years of coaching. Now, they need to make moves to stay competitive and make their way back. Yes, the AFC is the easier conference and the AFC West is lacking in competitiveness. But the KC Chiefs only have around 20,000,000.00 (20 million folks) in cap space going into free agency. And they have significant players potentially walking in free agency- including Defensive Lineman Chris Jones, Cornerbacks Morris Claiborne, Kendall Fuller and Breshad Breeland. Sammy Watkins can be a potential cut in free agency releaving some cap space- while also potentially leaving some dead cap behind. Can’t keep everyone- also, the time-clock is ticking on paying star quarterback Patrick Mahomes! Good thing the Chiefs have all their draft picks for the first five rounds in the 2020 draft- which is more than I could say for the San Francisco 49ersSpeaking of...now- what about the niners and their hopes for 2020? San Francisco has a similar cap situation going into 2020- with an estimated 20 million in cap. They don’t have as many star players leaving- with Defensive lineman Arik Armstead (who lead the Dline in sacks in 2019) and mid season acquisition receiver Emmanuel Sanders (who the 49ers traded a 3rd and 4th rd pick) being the biggest names able to walk in free agency. Sanders is the more likely of the two to return as his contract will probably be in the low teens- while Armstead will require a multi year deal. Since the Niners D-line will still include Rookie Defensive Player of the Year Nick Bosa, Dee Ford and Deforest Buckner- I think they have the depth to at least potentially withstand Armstead leaving. Kyle Juscyck is also potentially leaving as the team has an option on him in 2020. Two major defensive backs potentially leaving include Safety Jimmie Ward (who came back on a 1 year deal and can potentially return a similar way) and CB Emmaul Mosely. Still, although the 49ers are in a tough division in the NFC West- there is very little that makes us think they won’t be competitive in 2020.
