THE FYX 069: Are You Managing Your Stress or Just Ignoring It? Opening Up about Mental Health with JP Byrne

from No Such Thing with Krysta Huber · host Operation Podcast

We're back after a week off with our newest episode and a few updates: Coach Krysta is switching up the calendar with a new episode release schedule -- every other Thursday: you've now got an extra week to catch up on the latest FYX content. Transparently, life is busy, stress is high and stress management is a central theme to this specific chat with our featured guest, JP Byrne. JP is a Founding Athletifreak Icon and health and fitness professional at Lifetime Fitness in Bridgewater, New Jersey. He's deeply passionate about overall health and focuses on a pure lifestyle approach with his personal training clients. While open diagolue and conversations like this one are a great way to change the narrative around mental health and mental hygiene, JP is taking that mission a step further with the help of Athletifreak and a new workout movement he's designed: Free Your Mind. For FYX listeners who are newer to the show, be sure to check out THE FYX 017 with Mo Wadhwani, Athletifreak Co-Founder, to learn more about the athleisure brand. Like JP, Coach Krysta is also a brand ambassador aka an Athletifreak Icon. Athletifreak is committedAF to leading and inspiring our community to do something positive and move our bodies with purpose. The inner freak we all have wants to be unleashed and heard. This May, Athletifreak is teaming up with Warrior Strong to raise funds and to raise awareness around mental health. The Free Your Mind movement is an inclusive community led exercise challenge that any BODY can do ANYWHERE. Warrior Strong is a workout facility and gym that provides veterans with free memberships for them and their families to improve physical and mental health. In this episode, JP and Krysta discuss: - The prevalence of mental health challenges among our population today -- and how it's particularly impacting men, kids and teens - The benefits of meditation and some of the common misconceptions around it - Why self-care should be so integral to your fitness routine - The difference between managing your stress and ignoring your stress - Understanding mental health as mental hygiene - How to actually see results in your fitness journey Inspired by this conversation? JP, Athletifreak, Warrior Strong, and Coach Krysta want YOU to join the movement. All you have to do is register for the workout on May 14th, 2022 and complete it wherever you are. We can't share the details on the entire workout just yet, but we can tell you that it's scalable for all fitness levels and doesn't require equipment to complete.
