THE FYX 113: Raising the Standard on Cultivating Community through Fitness with Dane McCarthy

from No Such Thing with Krysta Huber · host Operation Podcast

If you've ever been a regular group fitness goer, you most likely agree that the top selling points of the experience include the energy of sweating with other people, the motivation in a room surrounded by individuals who push themselves to reach their highest potential, and plain and simple--easily making friends who share a common bond for health and wellness. Just about any fitness studio can brag on its community--to the point where it's not so much a selling point as it is a standard practice today. The exception? The Athletic Clubs. NYC's private-member club that's structured to where participants train in squads: upon enrollment, you're assigned a specific group (up to 25 people), a dedicated coach, and 2 set times per week where your squad trains together. This isn't your average drop-in, transactional boutique workout. In this episode, Coach Krysta sits down with The Athletic Clubs' founder, Dane McCarthy. The Athletic Clubs are home to three locations (one of which is on the way in Williamsburg) in New York City. Krysta and Dane discuss: - How the concept of squad training formed and ultimately led to the development of The Athletic Clubs - The otherwise transactional and anoynmous nature of the boutique fitness space - How The Athletic Clubs cultivate community, especially by leveraging technology - What it means to be a community-oriented gym, not another fitness modality - How The Athletic Clubs training mixes well with other workouts To learn more about The Athletic Clubs and to see if you're a fit for a squad, check out the company's IG page @the.athleticclubs Follow each location: @westvillageathletic @greenwichvillageathletic @williamsburgathletic Follow Dane: @mccarthydane We're currently accepting 1:1 clients into our program.
