The Gender Health Gap with Sarah Graham

from WomenKind Collective

The fabulous author of Rebel Bodies, our book for our book club this series, Sarah Graham joins us on the podcast this week and we talk all things gender health gap. From describing exactly what the gender health is to bikini medicine, Sarah discusses all. An emotive episode that will have you nodding along, gasping in shock and maybe putting your head in your hands, but definitely not one to miss. This book is a critical read for change in women’s health.Sarah, is an award-winning freelance health journalist and founder of the Hysterical Women blog, specialising in health, gender and feminism. She has written extensively on these subjects for the iNews paper, Refinery29, the Telegraph, Grazia, Guardian, the BMJ and many others and Sarah was a finalist in the 2021 Medical Journalists’ Association Awards. The statistics around women’s health are as shocking as the story’s from the women who have gone through unthinkable trauma at the hands of medical professionals. Sarah collated the accounts which highlights the misogyny, bias, gaslighting and oppression from her #shitmydoctorsays on her blog Hysterical Women. We discuss the importance of advocates and how they can assist women getting heard by health care professionals and we ask what is the way forward. Sarah discusses her research and the story’s that effected her the most when researching for this book. We talk wine pronunciations, check if you’ve been pronouncing your glass of Rioja correctly and did you know about Galantines? We have all the answers for you. In the Foodie Collective we launch our Nice Buns feature with a delicious bun, Swiss 3 King cake. These delicious yeasted dough buns are enriched with butter, sugar, egg, hazelnuts, dark chocolate and Seville oranges and they taste absolutely delicious! And Jinty has a vegan version! In the WI we celebrate St Brigid and did you know daffodils are the happiest flowers around? There’s a fantastic quote this week too from Mary Portas. It’s another episode jam packed with chat, your comments, and all the usual shenanigans.
