The Gift of Accountability

Gen X values independence the way some people value oxygen — it's non-negotiable, and anything that looks like someone else having access to our lives can feel like surveillance. That self-protective posture made sense in a generation that watched institutions abuse authority. But this episode looks at what we've lost by carrying that same guardedness into our closest relationships: the kind of honest, friction-producing friendship that actually sharpens character.Proverbs 27:17 is six words long and deeply demanding: as iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. The sharpening only happens because of the resistance — which means the comfortable, affirming relationships that never challenge us are not actually doing what iron does to iron.
