THE GIFT TO BE SIMPLE #RTTBROS #NIGHTLIGHT There’s an old Shaker song that goes: 'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free, 'tis the gift to come down where you ought to be. And when we find ourselves in the place just right, it will be in the valley of love and delight.The folks who wrote that weren't chasing a "slower pace of life" for the sake of a trend. They believed simplicity itself was a gift from God, not a discipline you white-knuckle your way through. "Coming down to where you ought to be" is humility. That is obedience. And the promise is that on the other side of that surrender isn't drudgery; it is a valley of love and delight."But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you." — Matthew 6:33We live in a loud, cluttered, complicated world, friend. There are more voices competing for our attention than any generation before us has ever known. Most of us try to out-manage that complexity with more calendars, more systems, and more effort. But Jesus already gave us the way through: Seek first. Not seek first and also. Just seek first. When the one thing is rightly ordered, everything else finds its place.Tonight, try these three things to find that simplicity:1. Guard the intake. Limit the voices shouting for your attention before you even touch your to-do list.2. Finish one thing. Stop splitting yourself across half-finished tasks and see one thing through to the end.3. Anchor your identity. Remind yourself that your standing with God is more important than the demands of everyone pulling at you.You don't have to solve the whole complicated mess of your life tonight. Just come down to where you ought to be.
