The Gifts of the Spirit: The Gift of Discerning of Spirits Day 1 - What Is the Discerning of Spirits?

Awakened to Deliver – The Gifts of the Spirit: Discerning of Spirits Week 30, Day 1: What Is the Discerning of Spirits? Key Verse: 1 Corinthians 12:10 (NASB 2020) “…to another the effecting of miracles, and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits…” ⸻ Episode Highlights • The discerning of spirits is the Spirit-given ability to perceive the source behind actions, messages, or atmospheres. • This gift is not suspicion or intuition—it is supernatural insight from the Holy Spirit. • Discernment helps us recognize whether something is from the Holy Spirit, a demonic spirit, the human soul, or angelic activity. • Without this gift, the Church becomes vulnerable to deception, manipulation, and counterfeit manifestations. • Hebrews 5:14 reminds us that discernment grows through maturity and practice. • True discernment is rooted in love, not judgment, and it protects the believer from spiritual confusion. ⸻ Scriptures to Reflect On • 1 Corinthians 12:10 – “…to another the distinguishing of spirits…” • Acts 16:17–18 – Paul discerns the spirit behind the slave girl. • Matthew 16:23 – Jesus rebukes the spirit influencing Peter. • Hebrews 5:14 – Discernment comes through training and spiritual maturity. • 1 John 4:1 – “Test the spirits to see whether they are from God…” • Hebrews 13:2 – Some have entertained angels without knowing it. ⸻ Takeaway Thought The discerning of spirits is not about being critical—it’s about clarity. It’s a protective gift that allows believers to recognize the true source behind what they see or hear, ensuring they stay aligned with God’s will and truth. ⸻ Stay Connected Find all ministry links, bonus teachings, and updates in the Linktree in the show notes.
