The Gifts Part 3: The Priority of Prophecy

Though the office of the Prophets and the Apostles ceased in the first century, the gift of prophecy is very much alive and continues in the Church today because it serves an important function in building up the Body of Christ. Those who have the gift of prophecy do not receive direct revelation today (that was given when the foundation was being laid - the written word of God); instead, the gift is exercised through the Spirit's ministry of illumination - the ability to proclaim, reiterate and explain the written word of God - always with the "testimony of Jesus Christ."
